The Fundação Algarvia de Desenvolvimento Social (FADS) is an institution dedicated to providing social and educational assistance for children and the elderly, as well as promoting cultural and social development. It was established in May 1996 and officially recognized by Ordinance No. 296/96, December 28, published in the Diário da República, 2nd series, No. 300, December 28, 1996.
It was founded by the cooperatives CHASFA and COOBITAL. Later, it became part of the Movimento Cooperativo Habitacional – MCH Group Algarve and took on the role of promoting social support, focusing initially on childcare and more recently on the care of the elderly.
The crèches and preschools in Faro and Olhão have been open since September 1991.
Currently under the name “Os Vivaços,” these establishments have held a prominent place in the educational landscape of the region, with high quality standards. In January 2010, FADS was able to open another Social Support Unit in the parish of Montenegro. This facility was built with the support of the MCH Algarve Group, Faro City Council, and ISSS under the PARES Program.
As a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, FADS was recognized as a legal entity of public utility and registered on February 12, 2001, as a Foundation for Social Solidarity.
